What to do in Spring in Fort Collins

HIKE THE ROCKIES

What better way to welcome the warmth and sunshine than with a trip down one of our many outdoor hiking trails? Fort Collins has hundreds of both expert and beginner trailheads for you to enjoy. Be sure to pack a lunch, and bring the sunscreen – even in the spring, Colorado’s sun shines brightly! Here’s our top 3 trail suggestions for your day in the hills:

  1. Big “A” Trail – Also known as the Foothills Trail, this meandering hike will lead you up to the painted “A” that sits above the former CSU college football stadium (Hughes Stadium). Perfect for an afternoon hike, this trail has 4 easy trails totaling 2.5 miles, along with a longer 6.2 mile trail as well.
  2. Horsetooth Rock Trail – No trip to Fort Collins is complete without a hike up to Horsetooth Rock! This trail has two options, one steeper, longer version that leads up to the famous “horse tooth” shaped rock that sits high above our city, and another shorter, yet absolutely beautiful hike through the woods to the waterfall that sits behind it. This hike has 2 difficult trails totaling 3.8 miles, and 2 difficult trails totaling 3.8 miles. (Note that there is a day fee to park in the lot for this trailhead. Ask the front desk for more details!)
  3. Lory State Park Trails – Looking to just meander around for a while? Look no further than Lory State Park. This park is just a short car ride outside the city, and boasts some of the best hiking trails around. Short, long, easy, and more difficult hikes are available for those seeking a day in the sun, so be sure to bring a backpack full of snacks for your hike! This park has 6 easy trails totaling 8.3 miles, 6 moderate trails totaling 7.3 miles, and 3 difficult trails totaling 6.9 miles.

ENJOY A HAPPY HOUR

Downtown Fort Collins is just brimming with restaurants, breweries and snack shops – all of which can’t wait for summer! Often you’ll find some great Happy Hour specials going on, especially on the patios, rooftops, and outdoor spaces around town. Check out our recommendation for The Best Rooftops & Patios, then ask the front desk for their favorite place to soak up some sun, and some Happy Hour fun!

CATCH A FLICK

One of our most favorite spots in Fort Collins, the Holiday Twin Drive-In Movie Theater, opens May 5th this year. If you’re coming into town and want to experience a rare treat, take yourself down to the drive-in and catch a movie. As one of the country’s last remaining drive-in movie theaters, and with many of the season’s best movies on display, the Holiday Twin Drive in is just the thing to welcome the spring!

RIDE THE TROLLEY THROUGH THE PARK

Maybe you have just a little bit of time before embarking on your next adventure? No need to worry. We’ve got just the thing to fill up your Fort Collins afternoon! Take a ride on the City Park Trolley through our beautiful Fort Collins central park! This historic trolley has been providing rides through Fort Collins for over a century, and is one of our most favorite afternoon activities. Enjoy a day with the kids at one of the biggest parks in town, then complete your afternoon with some popsicles from Downtown favorite, Revolution Pops.

TAKE A TOUR

We’re big on beer around here – especially beer that comes with a tour! Take an afternoon (or a whole day!) to check out any of our 21 micro breweries around town, and you’ll be on your way to the best Fort Collins adventure yet! New Belgium Brewery, Odells, and the Fort Collins Brewery all have spectacular brewery tours, yet you may want to wander down to some of the smaller breweries for an even more behind the scenes look! Grab a Brewery Tour Map from the front desk to aid in your afternoon of brews.
