Equinox is a cozy and welcoming microbrewery just a few blocks away from the hotel. They serve delicious beer with regularly rotating brews on tap, and they have newly expanded their space to accommodate more guests.
Located at 133 Remington Street, they brew all their beer on-site and are open daily. Although they do not offer food options beyond small snacks and an occasional food truck in the evenings, they do permit outside food to be brought in.
They have root beer on tap and juice boxes for the children. In the summer you will often see parents with babies and young children relaxing in the beer garden after work and dancing to live music on the weekends. (By the way, on Fridays and Saturdays Equinox Brewing hosts local bands: In the summer, listen to the music out on the patio in their beer garden. In the colder months, the music moves inside!)
Games are available inside the brewery, as well, for those who feel like challenging their friends to a game of shuffleboard. Or pull out a board game or a deck of cards to play with while sipping a beer on a winter afternoon.
On Thursdays, Equinox can further your mouth’s imagination if you try their firkin tapping. (A firkin is a small wooden vessel or cask.) On Thursdays, Equinox Brewing taps their ten-gallon firkin – a naturally carbonated barrel of beer.
Their website explains, “The firkin beer is gravity fed into a glass, using no artificially introduced C02.” In the past, their Thursday firkin tapping beer had been brewed with juniper berries, which was simultaneously different and delicious!
Equinox employees are friendly–easily approachable and always smiling. They are generous enough to let guests taste samples before ordering to make sure everyone receives a beer they truly enjoy.
Equinox’s beer called Night Ryder Munich Dunkel was awarded GOLD at the 2012 Great American Beer Festival in the group of European-Style Dunkel. O’Rion Irish Red won GOLD in 2011 at the Great American Beer Festival for the Irish-Style Red Ale selection. In 2010, their Eclipse Brown Ale won BRONZE at the Great American Beer Festival under the category of English-Style Brown Ale.
Get down to Equinox this week and sample some of your new favorite beers!
